Sewing any project as a beginner can be a little stressful.That is why I decided to write this blog post on 12 SEWING TIPS TO SAVE YOU TIME AND MONEY
1.CARRY FABRIC SAMPLES AS YOU SHOP
When shopping for accessories for a sewing project always staple a sample of fabric on an index card .This is my first sewing tip to save you time.
This will help you on the color of threads to buy or bias or trimmings you might want to use on your project .
2.THREADING OF YOUR SEWING MACHINE
If you can’t find your needle threader immediately (which is something that happens to me almost always ),there is a simple substitute .
Push the machine needle through a white paper when you bring it up the eye will be easy to see .
3.USE MASCARA BRUSHES AS SUBSTITUTE FOR CLEANING
Cleaning your sewing machine is part of your sewing machine maintainance.
Do you have a dried up mascara brush ? Don’t be so fast to throw it away. Thoroughly washed mascara brushes can be used as a substitute for cleaning the crevices of your sewing machine.
4.KEEP YOUR MAGNET HANDY.GREAT SEWING TIP
This is a sewing tip that will save you time and money always. Having a magnet in your sewing toolbox can attract a lot of loose pins.
Also put one on your sewing table and one on your cutting board .
This saves you time from having to bend down and search for pins on the floor. It also saves you money from having to buy packets of pins every time.
5.BE ORGANISED.TIME SAVING SEWING TIP
Get all you need for a particular sewing project in one place . Get your fabric, you thread your fusible fleece ,hook and eye,bias etc.
It saves you time from having to get up every time to search for a particular item .This tips can also help you when setting up your sewing room
A shallow tray can play an important role in keeping your sewing accessories near and handy.
A shallow tray is a tray with different shallow sections .
This allows you to have everything easily at your disposal as you sew. You can put your shallow tray on one corner of your cutting table or sewing table.
The moment you need an equipment to do any adjustment you can just reach out and get what you want. You. can keep things like elastic, zippers buttons, needles, scissors ,pencil ,sharpener, tape ,tailors chalk,ruler curved ruler, tracing wheels etc in your shallow tray
6.DO ALL YOUR CUTTING AT ONCE
Through all my years of sewing experience, I have discovered that it takes longer to cut than to sew .
You can actually save a lot of time if you sit down and do all your cutting at once .I usually use the lutterloh pattern making system to make my clothes. If I’m making a top and skirt ,I first cut all the pattern pieces I will be needing in one sitting.
I also prepare the Fabrics in one sitting .This process saves me a lot of time. This is one of the best of the 12 sewing tips to save you money and time

7.SEW STRAIGHT FORWARD ITEMS IN A CHAIN
If you have repetitive pieces, it is best you sew them in a chain to save time. This include straightforward items like hemming pockets,sewing cloth based belts .
8.ROLL ALL YOUR BOBBINS AT ONCE.
If you are sewing a green dress roll all the green threads you will need in 2 to 5 Bobbins at once. Nothing slows down your sewing than having to stop and wind a bobbin !.
9.SHOP ON CASHBACK SITES
The one I use is IBOTTA. This works for Jo-Ann fabrics. Once you buy anything through Ibotta in this store, you scan your purchase receipt to get cash back. Note however that before you purchase any cashback item please check camelcamelcamel Amazon price tracker to check the items price history .
Ebates is also a good cashback site .It is now called RAKUTEN.It is also now restricted to some countries.
Amazon Prime day which is usually every July often have good deals on sewing and craft related stuff.
eBay is another place to check for very cheap stuff that can save you a lot of money. A lot of people tend to sell their things first on eBay .
10.BUY OFTEN USED ITEMS IN BULK.
I always buy my most used sewing accessories in bulk. This include buttons, zip, elastic fusible fleece and bias.
I have saved a lot of money on Olfa rotary cutter blades and Organ sewing needles on Amazon .

11.SIMPLE ALTERNATIVE TO INTERLOCKING MACHINE.MONEY SAVING SEWING TIP!
If you are a beginner and on a budget it might be too expensive for you to get an interlocking machine immediately .
To prevent fraying of your Hemming edges, use a zig zag scissors to cut the Hem edges or use your normal zigzag stitch on your machine with matching or contrasting color.
12.DONT DISCARD YOUR OLD JEANS
Before discarding any trouser or jeans, cut off the belt loops and use to sew on the inside of children’s coats and jackets as a coat loop.
This. will stop Jackets and coats from falling off the racks
